Nate Jones Interview

You're from Ohio, huh?
So are you, huh?
No, I'm not. I lived there for 9 months. That's it.
Cincinnati's pretty good. I'm from Dayton, Ohio. It's shitty in the winter times. Really hot in the summers. Not a whole lot of shit in skating. Just girls, mullets and peckins.
What's that?
You never heard of like, "Ah, man, you're a peckin"? It's like basically a red neck. Peckin. That's where mullet came from. Peckin, mullet, all that shit.
How does mullet come from peckin?
Well, I mean it's like the same term towards somebody.
How you dealing with all the hippies and the queers in 'Frisco?
Well, I don't really run into too many queers. Sometimes you'll see some guys making out and you're just kind of like, "Whoa, what the fuck?" I mean, you don't see that much in Ohio. I'm not against gay people. Whatever. Do your thing. I'd prefer to see two girls make out rather than guys. And then the hippies, hey, you know, I'm down with the hippies. They're cool. Well, some are like drastically hippy and dirty, but, it's cool, man.
You don't mind girls with fuzzy armpits and shit?
No, that's cool. I'm down with it.
You're down with Real, does that help you get girls?
Uh, no. I'm sure Mic-E [Reyes] does. Mic-E gets girls, but he's aggressive, too.
Mic-E probably gets more ass than he knows what to do with.
Oh, no, he does. I've definitely gone over and there'll be like three girls hanging out and I'll be like, "What the fuck?" Like, "What are these girls doing with this guy?"
You need to chill with him, and just scoop up whatever fucking falls off.
Mic-E's crazy. You can't hang out with that guy too much. He'll get in fights and whatever. Just end up getting drunk and probably beating me up.
You're afraid of Mic-E?
Oh, yeah. I'm definitely afraid of Mic-E. Mic-E would knock me out with one punch. If he laid into it, I'd be out. Toothless and out cold.
So you're Real for life then?
I'm Real for life.
'Cause if you leave, you're probably dead.
Yeah. I don't think he'd kill me, but I'd have to have my reasons to leave. They haven't given me any reasons yet, so it's been good.
Tell me a story that makes you sound like a bad ass.
Okay, me and Gabe [Morford] are at the library in San Francisco. I'm trying to skate this gap by myself and this bum comes over to me, and he's like trying to talk to me, and he's pointing to something. So I look over and he kicks my board away from me. And I was like, "What the fuck are you doing?" And he's all, "You kids are the reason my shoulder's dislocated. You fucked me up, blah, blah." And I'm like, "Fuck you. Get out of my fucking face." I'm trying to walk over towards Gabe and he grabs the back of my neck. I hit his hand away. I'm like, "Don't you fuckin' grab me." Gabe comes over and next thing you know, Gabe's macing these guys—it's two big bum dudes—in the fucking face. They're falling on the ground, yelling and screaming, so we fucking jet. So the next time we come back, it was me and Frank [Gerwer], and this bum's laying on the ledge, and Frank's giving him some shit, but then he skates off and I'm still standing there. And the guy starts yelling at me, and he gets up in my face, and then he pushes me, like right off the ledge, so I jump backwards. By the time I hop back on the ledge and start chasing him, Frank's already beating him with his board. I hit him a couple times, he fell down. Security guard comes around, he's like, "Cut it out, cut it out." And then Frank just hits him as hard as he can, right in the elbow.
But isn't Frank down with the God squad?
Frank's down the God squad, but you couldn't really say he's like the God squad. He has his own point of view. He follows the Frank guideline pretty much.
I'm going to go have lunch.
I think I'm going to have lunch, too. That's my plan.
Sounds good. You got anything else to say?
Should I say my sponsors? That's Real, Thunder, Spitfire, I Path,
Ezekiel, FKD, Reaction Griptape.
You don't have a sponsor for bolts?
I don't, actually. I ride Lucky Hardware.
Well, seems like you got everything covered.
I guess I do, don't I? I never thought about it like that.
Yeah, you don't got to pay for shit.
